Common Inquiries
When will I be billed?
Monthly Correspondents are billed on the date they initially subscribe and on that same date each month thereafter for as long as their membership remains active.
Annual Correspondent memberships are billed in full at the time of enrollment.
Three-Month Correspondent Gifts are paid in full at the time of purchase and do not automatically renew.
When will I receive my first dispatch?
All Memberships will be shipped in January of 2027.
Memberships begin with the next scheduled monthly dispatch. To receive an upcoming month's dispatch, enrollment must be completed by the 25th day of the preceding month.
For example, a membership purchased before January 25th will begin with the February dispatch.
Past Dispatches may be purchased separately, subject to availability.
When will my dispatch be mailed?
Monthly dispatches leave the Office during the first week of each month.
Once mailed, please allow approximately 7–14 business days for delivery within the United States. Postal delays may occasionally result in longer delivery times.
Can I track my dispatch?
No. Monthly dispatches are sent through the United States Postal Service using standard postage and do not include tracking.
Part of the Office's commitment to analog correspondence means that, once entrusted to the postal service, a dispatch must make its own way to you.
My dispatch hasn't arrived. What should I do?
First, confirm that your membership was active before the cutoff for that month's dispatch. Memberships purchased during a given month begin with the following month's investigation.
If 14 business days have passed since the expected mailing period and your dispatch has not arrived, please contact the Office through our website or at theofficeofextraordinaryplaces@gmail.com
Please include your name, mailing address, and the missing dispatch when contacting us so the matter can be investigated.
What happens if my dispatch arrives damaged?
The postal service occasionally subjects correspondence to adventures not authorized by the Office.
If your dispatch arrives significantly damaged, please contact the Office and include a photograph of the affected materials. We will make every effort to provide replacement materials when remaining inventory permits.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Monthly Correspondents may cancel at any time through their customer portal or by contacting the Office.
Cancellation prevents future renewals but does not refund a membership charge that has already been processed or a dispatch that has entered preparation.
Does my membership automatically renew?
Monthly memberships automatically renew each month until canceled.
Annual memberships are subject to the renewal terms displayed at the time of enrollment.
Three-Month Correspondent Gifts conclude automatically following the third dispatch and do not renew.
How do I change my mailing address, billing information, or other account details?
Account and billing information may be updated through your customer portal. If you require assistance, please contact the Office.
Mailing address changes should be submitted before the end of the month to ensure the following month's dispatch is sent to the correct location.
What is included in each monthly dispatch?
Each dispatch contains an investigation of one Extraordinary Place accompanied by original artwork, field notes, and carefully assembled printed archival materials.
The precise contents may vary from one investigation to the next. The Office considers a small degree of uncertainty part of the experience.
What is the difference between Monthly and Annual membership?
Monthly and Annual Correspondents receive the same monthly investigations.
Monthly membership is billed each month and may be canceled at any time. Annual membership provides twelve consecutive dispatches through a single enrollment and offers savings compared with twelve individual monthly payments.
Certain Annual membership options may also include a Correspondence Dossier.
What is the Correspondence Dossier?
The Correspondence Dossier is an official Office file designed to collect, protect, and organize a Correspondent's growing archive of dispatches and materials.
The Dossier is included only with designated Annual Correspondent memberships and is not included with standard Monthly or Annual enrollment unless specifically stated.
Can I give a membership as a gift?
Certainly.
The Three-Month Correspondent Gift provides the recipient with three consecutive monthly investigations. The membership concludes automatically after the third dispatch, with no automatic renewal or cancellation required.
I joined late and missed a place I love. Can I purchase an older dispatch?
Possibly.
A limited number of previously issued investigations may remain within the Office archives and will be made available as Past Dispatches when inventory permits.
Past Dispatches are original issues containing the materials prepared for Correspondents at the time of release. Availability is limited, and the Office cannot guarantee that an investigation will be reprinted once remaining copies have been exhausted.
Can I purchase the Correspondent's Field Passport without a membership?
Yes.
The Correspondent's Field Passport is available as a separate addition to your collection and does not require an active membership with the Office.
Passports are produced in limited quantities and are available while inventory permits.
Do you ship internationally?
At present, regular Office correspondence is available within the United States only.
International operations remain under consideration.
Is The Office of Extraordinary Places a subscription box?
Not quite.
The Office of Extraordinary Places is an analog correspondence and mail club devoted to documenting remarkable architecture, landscapes, transit, and extraordinary places.
Rather than receiving a traditional box of products, Correspondents receive a carefully assembled investigation by post each month—something intended to be opened, read, handled, collected, and occasionally taken into the field.
I still have a question. How do I contact the Office?
